Curtiss candy (manufacturers of Baby Ruth, Butterfinger and other candies) had a large manufacturing facility in the North and South Pier terminals. The Chicago Tribune had a warehouse on the river where it received rolls of newsprint from maritime and rail traffic. The Tribune warehouse is serviced twice per day to ensure enough newsprint is available. D.B. Scully (in the background) is a provider of sugar syrups and molasses. Chicago was a center of candy manufacturing for much of the 20th century including Curtiss, Brachs, Fannie Mae and others. These buildings are no longer standing and were reproduced from photos and Sanborn maps.
